Posted Jun 25th, 2009 by Patient Assistance Team
Patient Assistance (http://www.PatientAssistance.com), which connects those who can't
afford their prescription medications with available patient assistance
programs run by pharmaceutical companies, releases a list of the top 20
patient assistance programs searched for on the organization's Web site,
listed by prescription medication.
BATON ROUGE, La., June 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- PatientAssistance.com, a
nonprofit organization connecting patients with patient assistance programs,
is releasing a list of the top 20 prescription medications visitors are
seeking help to afford. The list is derived from search statistics at the
PatientAssistance.com Web site, which features over 1000 patient assistance
programs for both brand name and generic prescription medications. Since its
launch, the site has successfully saved patients over $1 million on
prescriptions, in part by connecting them to patient assistance programs
through searches of their program database.
"The interesting thing about these statistics is that we're able to get a
glimpse of what medications people are most struggling to pay for," says Rex
Bowden, President of PatientAssistance.com, Inc. "This gives us some insight
into general affordability issues which allows us, and others involved in the
pharmaceutical industry, to better tailor programs and savings options to get
required medications into the hands of the patients who need them."
Patient Assistance reports the top 20 medications searched for in relation to
patient assistance programs (and their corresponding recent search volume) as
follows:
1. ADDERALL / ADDERALL XR (1183)
2. Lexapro (635)

"It's important to remember that for each person searching for a patient
assistance program, there are others in need who don't yet know these programs
exist," says Bowden. "It's true that these search statistics allow us to see a
sampling of those uninsured and under-insured patients and the drugs they need
assistance with. It's even important, however, that we and pharmaceutical
companies continue to do more to reach out to those patients eligible for, but
not yet taking advantage of, these patient assistance programs."
