Uses

This medication is used for short-term control of bleeding in hemophiliacs, including dental extraction procedures.

OTHER

Uses

This drug may also be used for many other conditions in which bleeding control is required such as after surgery or injury, recurrent nosebleeds or abnormal vaginal bleeding.

How To Use

Take exactly as directed. Dosage is generally two to four times daily by mouth. Length of treatment is based on your condition and response.

Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea might occur. If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Very unlikely but report promptly: vision changes, dizziness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

Before using this drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergies, history of blood clots or bleeding, eye problems (retina/color vision), kidney disease, head injury (subarachnoid hemorrhage). Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this drug. This drug is excreted into human milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor of all nonprescription or prescription medication you may use, especially of: aspirin/NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen), anticoagulants ("blood thinners" such as warfarin or heparin), aminocaproic acid, factor IX complex, anti-inhibitor coagulant concentrates, drugs that can cause blood clots (e.g., estrogens or birth control pills). Many nonprescription products contain aspirin/NSAIDs. Check labels carefully and consult your pharmacist. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Overdose

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include lightheadedness.

Notes

Do not share this medication with others. Eye examinations are advised for those using this drug for several weeks or more.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 36 and 86 degrees F (2-30 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture.
