Uses

This medication is used to prevent formation of kidney stones.

How To Use

This medication is taken by mouth usually 3 times day at least one hour before meals or two hours after meals. Take this as directed. Do not increase your dose, take this more often than prescribed or stop taking this without first consulting your doctor.

Side Effects

Loss of taste or stomach upset may occur. If these symptoms continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: fever, sore throat, chills, bruising, skin rash, itching, muscle aches. With long-term treatment, wrinkling of the skin has been reported. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

Tell your doctor if you have: anemia, blood disorders, any allergies. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is recommended to discontinue breast-feeding while taking this medication. Consult your doctor.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Overdose

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Notes

It is important to drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication. It is recommended to drink at least 2 glasses of water with each meal and at bedtime. Also wake at night to urinate and drink two more glasses of fluid. Follow any special dietary guidelines as recommended by your doctor or nutritionist. Laboratory tests will be done routinely while taking this medication to monitor for effectiveness and to prevent side effects.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.

Storage

Store this medication at room temperature away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom.
