STANNOUS FLUORIDE DENTAL - GEL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Flo-Gel, Gel-Kam
Uses
This medication contains fluoride. Fluoride makes teeth more resistant to decay and bacteria that cause cavities. This medication is used as a topical gel application for the teeth.
How To Use
This medication is used as a topical gel to be applied with a toothbrush. Use once or twice daily after thorough brushing and flossing. Shake excess water from toothbrush. Apply gel liberally to toothbrush (cover bristle surface completely). Brush all surfaces of teeth for 1 minute. Be sure to swish gel around and between teeth. Expectorate (spit out) any excess. Do not swallow gel. Do not rinse mouth, eat or drink for 30 minutes after using.
Side Effects
This medication may cause staining of the teeth or tongue. The stains can be removed by your dentist. Changes in taste can also occur while using this medication. If this medication is accidentally swallowed, stomach upset or nausea may occur. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially: all illnesses, if you are on a low-salt diet, if you live in an area where the drinking water is fluoridated, allergies (especially to fluoride). This fluoride supplement is used when the drinking water contains low fluoride levels (less than 0.7 parts per million). This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, excess saliva, stomach pain, diarrhea, irritability, seizures, and loss of consciousness.
Notes
Fluoride is found in tea, fluoridated water and fish eaten with bones such as sardines.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Storage
Store at room temperature away from sunlight. Avoid freezing.
