PROMETHAZINE WITH CODEINE SYRUP

Uses
This combination medication is used to relieve symptoms associated with a cold, allergies or respiratory tract illness.
How To Use
Take this medication with food if stomach upset occurs. Take this medication as directed. Do not increase the dose or take it more often or longer than prescribed. This is a strong medication and must only be used for the condition for which it is prescribed. It should not be used for just any cough or cold. It is helpful to drink plenty of fluids (6-8 glasses a day) to help relieve congestion.
Side Effects
Stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness or headache may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor promptly. Unlikely but notify your doctor promptly if you develop: rapid heart rate. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially: heart disease, kidney or liver disease, lung disease, asthma, ulcers, glaucoma, difficulty urinating, stomach/intestinal problems, diarrhea, enlarged prostate, allergies, history of seizures, history of drug dependency. Because this medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness, use caution performing tasks requiring alertness and limit alcohol intake, which can aggravate this effect. This drug should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug is excreted into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on the nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medication you may use including: sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, medication for depression, seizure medicine, narcotic pain medication, quinolone antibiotics (e.g., sparfloxacin), metrizamide, glaucoma eye medicines, antihistamines, guanethidine, guanadrel, quinidine, cimetidine, cabergoline. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include large and unchanging pupils, shaking, hot or cold skin, slowed breathing, deep sleep or loss of consciousness, and slow heartbeat.
Notes
Do not share this medication with others.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Storage
Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Do not freeze.
